Quarry Tech was started in August 2007 by Carl Richter and Izak Joubert.

Carl Richter started his career at Malans Quarries in 1996. Initially running a subbase crushing operation in a drill and blast quarry, he then moved on to manage three mobile crushing operations that concentrated on recycling builder’s rubble. He was also heavily involved with the procuring of second-hand mobile crushers imported from overseas for resale into the South African market.

Izak Joubert started out at Belmet engineering as a fitter and turner in 1992, he later moved onto AV Mouldings, owned by Power Construction as a manager in developing and manufacturing of steel moulds for the manhole industry. After that he took on the position of workshop/plant maintenance manager for Klapmuts Concrete, a well-known brick and block manufacturer in Cape Town. In 2001 Izak started at Malans Quarries as workshop manger where he was responsible for designing and building new crushing equipment and servicing the existing fleet of mobile crushers.
